Ray Manzarek Dead at 74 [ARTICLE]
Co-founder of The Doors, Ray Mazarek, died yesterday (5/20/13) at the age of 74, after a long battle with bile duct cancer.
If you don't know who The Doors are, they were a psychedelic rock band from the 60s and 70s. The band has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, as well as being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
Manzarek was born an raised in the south side of Chicago. After high school he went on to study economics at DePaul University. From 1962 to 1965 he studied cinematography at UCLA. There he met Jim Morrison. Morrison insisted that Manzarek hear some of the songs he had written. Manzarek liked the songs and the two founded The Doors.
Manzarek continued to play until mid-2011 and did collaborations with artists such as Darryl Read and
"Weird Al" Yankovic. Manzarek will be missed in the music community.
